Gordon wins at Phoenix: #24-Jeff Gordon won the Subway Fresh Fit 500 (k) Sprint Cup Series race at Phoenix International Raceway for his first win in 66 races [his last points win was at Texas Motor Speedway in April 2009] and 83rd win of his career [which ties him with Cale Yarborough for 5th in all time in wins]. He led the most laps on the day, passed #18-Kyle Busch with 8 laps to go, and pulled away to win by more than a second. Busch held onto finish 2nd, followed by #48-Johnson, #29-Harvick, #39-Newman, #4-Kahne, #14-Stewart, #22-Busch, #43-Allmendinger, and #88-Earnhardt, Jr. Pole sitter #99-Edwards was involved in accident on lap 59 and finished 28th. There was a big wreck involving 13 cars on lap 67, causing the race to be red flagged for 14 minutes for track cleanup.
There were 28 lead changes among 12 leaders with 8 cautions for 43 laps.

" Jeff Gordon won the Subway Fresh Fit 500 at Phoenix International Raceway. It was his 83rd Cup series win in 619 starts, tying Cale Yarborough for fifth all time.
" Gordon won for the first time since Texas in April 2009, 66 starts between -- the longest winless streak of his career. He finished second eight times between those wins.
" Gordon became the fourth driver to end a winless streak of 66 races or more in the past five races at Phoenix. The other three: Mark Martin in April 2009 (ended a 97-race winless streak), Ryan Newman in April 2010 (ending a 77-race winless streak), Carl Edwards in November 2010 (ended a 70-race winless streak).
" Gordon had won only one of his previous 114 starts entering Sunday's race. It was his second Phoenix win in 25 starts. He has only two top-10 finishes in his previous eight starts.
" Alan Gustafson is the fifth crew chief Gordon has won with in the Sprint Cup Series. Gustafson has 10 career wins with three different drivers. It was his third Phoenix win (along with Kyle Busch in November 2005, Mark Martin in April 2009).
" Gordon led six times for 138 laps, the most of all drivers. He rebounded from hitting the wall on Lap 59.
" Gordon scored the maximum points in the victory (48).
" Hendrick Motorsports drivers have won seven of the past nine Phoenix races: Johnson (four), Gordon (two) and Martin (one). Gordon's win Sunday was the 195th Cup series victory by a Hendrick driver.
" Chevrolet posted its 15th Phoenix victory, the most by any make.
" Kyle Busch (second) had an average finish of 1.33 in the three NASCAR Phoenix races over the weekend. He won both the Truck and Nationwide races.
" Kyle Busch and Kurt Busch rank first and second in points, the first time family members have led the points since the 1988 Daytona 500, when Bobby Allison and son Davey Allison ranked 1-2.
" Jimmie Johnson (third) has finished in the top five in the past 10 Sprint Cup races at Phoenix.
" Kevin Harvick (fourth) rebounded from a Lap 59 spin to finish fourth -- his best Phoenix finish since his last of two wins there in November 2006.

Outside pole sitter #22-Busch took pit stall 21, the first with an opening in front of it [after the 1st stall of course].
#22-Busch, who starts 3rd took the 13th pit stall, the first stall with an opening in back of it.

Green-White-Checkered Race Procedure: NASCAR announced a revision to one of its race procedures, allowing a maximum of three restart attempts prior to the White Flag under NASCAR's Green-White-Checkered flag finish. If the leader has taken the White Flag and the caution flag is displayed, the field is frozen and the race will not be restarted. Previously, there was only one restart attempt. The new procedure will be implemented beginning with today's running of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series' Gatorade Duel at Daytona and will apply to all three national series. NASCAR officials met with drivers and teams Wednesday at Daytona International Speedway to discuss the change and get their input. The announcement was made during the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series' drivers and crew chiefs meeting Thursday morning. "We want to do all we can to finish our races under green flag conditions - the fans want to see that and so do the competitors," said Robin Pemberton, NASCAR vice president of competition. "We felt that putting a cap at three attempts to finish the race under green is the way to go. It gives the fans what they want and it also gives the teams a better opportunity to prepare for their end of race strategy." Chassis selections for Phoenix:
#1-Jamie McMurray: Kevin "Bono" Manion will bring chassis #1008. This was the chassis that McMurray drove to a 10th place finish in the fall race at Phoenix last year.
#2-Brad Keselowski: will use chassis PRS-736 during Sunday's Subway Fresh Fit 500. This is a brand-new chassis to the #2 team.
#9-Marcos Ambrose: The #9 RPM team has prepared chassis No. 728 for the Subway Fresh Fit 500. This is a brand new Stanley Ford.
#17-Matt Kenseth: Primary: RK-725 (brand new chassis)
#18-Kyle Busch: This chassis will make its third start during Sunday's Subway Fresh Fit. In its maiden start, at Michigan last August, Busch qualified No. 280 in 18th and ran within the top-10 before a scrape with the wall relegated him to an 18th-place finish. In its most recent start at Auto Club Speedway, last October, Busch started 16th but finished a disappointing 35th as a blown engine ended his day on lap 155 of the 200-lap race.
#20-Joey Logano: The #20 Home Depot Team is taking chassis #275 this weekend for the race in Phoenix. The team used this chassis five times last season and it has four top-10 finishes. Logano piloted chassis #275 to a third-place finish at Dover, a ninth-place finish at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, crossed the stripe 10th at Michigan in August and most recently drove it to a sixth-place run at Martinsville.
#22-Kurt Busch: will be racing "PRS-738" Dodge Charger in this weekend's action at Phoenix. This chassis has been raced only once; in last October's Bank of America 500 at Charlotte. Busch started 15th and finished 30th in that race.
#27-Paul Menard: will pilot Chassis No. 342 from the RCR Sprint Cup Series stable. This #27 Chevy is a brand new addition to the RCR fleet, and will see its first laps on the track at PIR.
#29-Kevin Harvick: will pilot Chassis No. 332 from the RCR Sprint Cup Series stable. This #29 racer is a brand new car which will see its first laps on the track during Friday's practice session.
#31-Jeff Burton: will pilot chassis No. 323 from the RCR Sprint Cup Series stable in this weekend's 312-lap affair. Built new for 2010, this Caterpillar Chevy was put through its first paces at Kansas Speedway in October where the 18-year veteran finished 18th after starting 23rd.
#33-Clint Bowyer: will pilot chassis No. 340 from the RCR Sprint Cup Series stable. This is a brand new #33 Chevy that will turn its first laps on the track at Phoenix.
#39-Ryan Newman: This car made its debut in March 2010 at Martinsville, where it qualified fifth and finished 26th. Prior to Martinsville, Chassis No. 14-587 never turned a wheel on the racetrack. With a new body honed in the wind tunnel, it was tested at The Milwaukee Mile June 1 in preparation for its second career start in June at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon. There, Chassis No. 14-587 earned a hard-fought second-place finish. The car returned to New Hampshire for the first event of the 10-race Chase for the Championship, where in its third career start, it qualified third before leading three times for 100 laps. Chassis No. 14-587 revisited Martinsville for round six of the Chase, where it qualified sixth and rallied back from two pit-road miscues during the race, but a flat right-front tire with less than 10 laps remaining relegated it to a 24th-place finish. With another new body, this car makes its first start of 2011 and fifth overall this weekend at Phoenix International Raceway.
#42-Juan Pablo Montoya: Brian Pattie and the Target team will be bringing Chassis #1109 to Phoenix. This is a brand-new chassis.
#43-A.J. Allmendinger: The #43 RPM team has prepared chassis No. 729 for this weekend's event at Phoenix. This Valvoline Ford is a new car, but was tested at New Smyrna Speedway in Smyrna Beach, Fla. in January.
#48-Jimmie Johnson: will pilot chassis No. 590 in Sunday's Sprint Cup Series race. He last drove that car to a third-place finish at Richmond in Sept. 2010. Backup chassis No. 540 crossed the finish line fifth at Phoenix last November.
