Unusual pit selections at Infineon: At an oval track, it's a no-brainer that the top qualifier will choose pit stall No. 1, closest to the exit from pit road. So why did Greg Zipadelli, crew chief for polesitter #20-Joey Logano, choose pit stall No. 11-just short of the start/finish line-for Sunday's race? Quite simply, there are considerations at the 1.99-mile road course that don't apply at an oval track. Here's the explanation:
Given the likelihood of green-flag pit stops and the danger of running out of fuel, Zipadelli opted for a pit stall that gives the team room to push-start the car in a situation where it's out of gas. There's a small opening in front of pit stall No. 11, which would give the team room to push the car without rolling through another team's pit box.
AJ Allmendinger's crew chief, Mike Shiplett, chose pit stall No. 1 with the seventh pick. Yes, there's a clear exit from pit road, but there's also a risk. If Allmendinger happens to run out of fuel, his team won't be able to push-start the car, because of the proximity of pit stall No. 1 to the racing surface. Pit Stall Selections: The selections of pit stalls for the Toyota/Save Mart 350 Sprint Cup Series race at Infineon Raceway have been made.
Pole sitter #20-Logano chose pit stall 11, the first just before the start/finish line.
Outside pole sitter #1-McMurray took pit stall 22, the next stall with an opening behind it.
#27-Menard, who starts 3rd took the 23rd pit stall.
The 43rd and final pit stall was taken by #5-Martin, who starts 16th.

NASCAR Green-White-Checkered Race Procedure: NASCAR allows a maximum of three restart attempts prior to the White Flag under NASCAR's Green-White-Checkered flag finish. If the leader has taken the White Flag and the caution flag is displayed, the field is frozen and the race will not be restarted. Previously, there was only one restart attempt. 3) go-or-go-home cars will now qualify among the 35 teams locked in on owner points and not be separated by the field. 4) the NASCAR Sprint Cup director does reserve the right to change a driver's qualifying order or allow "adjustments or repairs" to cars after the car has taken the green flag at the start/finish line.
5) all cars must qualify with a full fuel cell.
6) Qualifying consists of two consecutive timed laps
7) the fastest lap determines qualifying position
8) in case of a rain-out of practice, a random drawing will be held for cars set up in the garage area to determine qualifying
9) if qualifying is rained out, the order of the field will be set according to Section 9-5 of the 2011 NASCAR Sprint Cup rule book. Set by top-35 practice speeds, then go-or-go homers. If all practices and qualifying are cancelled, then set by top 35 owners points, then race attempts

#1-Jamie McMurray: Crew Chief Kevin "Bono" Manion has elected to bring chassis number #1012 to Infineon Raceway this weekend. This chassis previously ran both road course races in 2010, coming home 15th at Infineon and 6th at Watkins Glen.
#2-Brad Keselowski: The #2 Miller Lite Dodge Charger team will race chassis PRS-740 during Sunday's Toyota/Save Mart 350 at Infineon Raceway. This is a new chassis to the #2 fleet.
#5-Mark Martin: Crew chief Lance McGrew has chosen Hendrick Motorsports Chassis No. 5- 674 for Sunday's race at Infineon. This is a new chassis that has not yet been raced or tested.
#6-David Ragan: Primary: RK-773 Brand new chassis; Backup: RK-762 Brand new chassis
#9-Marcos Ambrose: The No. 9 RPM team has prepared chassis No. 761 for the 224-mile event at Infineon Raceway. This Stanley Ford Fusion is a new car but was tested earlier this season at Virginia International Raceway.
#14-Tony Stewart: Chassis No. 14-660: This is a brand new racecar that has only seen track time during a test on May 16 at Virginia International Raceway in Alton. The Toyota/Save Mart 350k at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, Calif., will mark its debut.
#17-Matt Kenseth: Primary: RK-757 (brand new chassis)
#18-Kyle Busch: Chassis No. 305: This is a brand new chassis that is slated to see action for the first time in Sunday's Toyota/SaveMart 350k at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, Calif.
#20-Joey Logano: The #20 Home Depot Team is taking chassis #306 to Sonoma this weekend. This is a new road-course chassis for the Joe Gibbs Racing Team. The back-up chassis is #234 that Logano drove at Watkins Glen and Sonoma last season.
#22-Kurt Busch: and his Steve Addington-led Penske Racing "Double Deuce" will be debuting their brand new "PRS-742" Shell-Pennzoil Dodge Charger at Infineon Raceway this weekend. "We had the car up at VIR last week giving it a final shakedown," crew chief Addington said of the June 14 test date on the sprawling 3.27-mile Virginia International Raceway layout located near Danville, Va.
#27-Paul Menard: will pilot Chassis No. 358 from the Richard Childress Racing NASCAR Sprint Cup Series stable. This No. 27 Chevrolet Impala is a brand new addition to the RCR fleet for the 2011 season and will be put through its first paces at the Sonoma, Calif.-based facility.
#29-Kevin Harvick: will race chassis No. 357 from the Richard Childress Racing NASCAR Sprint Cup Series stable. This is a brand new race car that will see its first on-track action this weekend at Infineon Raceway.
#31-Jeff Burton will race chassis No. 245 from the Richard Childress Racing NASCAR Sprint Cup Series stable.Built new in 2009 as a No. 07 racer, this machine was put through two short track tests and then shelved before being converted to a road course No. 31 racer. It was put through its first competition at Infineon Raceway last June where the South Boston, Va., native finished 27th before rebounding nicely at Watkins Glen International a couple of months later when he piloted the RCR entry to a ninth-place result.
#33-Clint Bowyer: will pilot chassis No. 300 from the Richard Childress Racing NASCAR Sprint Cup Series stable. This Chevrolet Impala, built in 2010 specifically for road course racing, has seen action twice - the first being a 31st-place finish last season at Infineon Raceway and, most recently, last August at Watkins Glen International when Bowyer brought home a 32nd-place effort.
#36-Dave Blaney: will pilot TBR chassis No. 65. This chassis is a brand new chassis designed specifically for road course racing.
#39-Ryan Newman: This will be the first start for Chassis No. 39-661. The new chassis for the No. 39 Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR) team was tested at Virginia International Raceway in Alton on May 24 in preparation for the first road-course race of the season at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, Calif.
#42-Juan Pablo Montoya: The #42 team will bring chassis #1014 to Infineon Raceway this weekend. This same chassis was run at both road courses last season when Montoya finished 10th at Infineon and went to Victory Lane at Watkins Glen International in August.
#43-A.J. Allmendinger: The #43 RPM team has prepared chassis No. 760 for this weekend's event at Infineon Raceway. Though this weekend will mark the first time this particular car has been utilized this season. Allmendinger and the #43 team tested it several times at Virginia International Raceway.
#48-Jimmie Johnson: finished 28th in primary chassis No. 543 at Watkins Glen International in 2010. Backup chassis No. 442 crossed the finish line seventh at Watkins Glen International in 2008.
#88-Dale Earnhardt, Jr.: This weekend, crew chief Steve Letarte and the #88 team will unload Hendrick Motorsports Chassis No. 88-601. Jeff Gordon most recently raced this chassis to a 10th-place finish at Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International in August last year.
#99-Carl Edwards: RK-758, This is a new car.
