• The first NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race was in 1974.
• There have been 68 NASCAR Sprint Cup races at Pocono Raceway.
• There was one race from 1974 through 1981, and two per year since.
• This season will mark the first time the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races at Pocono will be scheduled for 400 miles. Prior to 2012 all NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races were 500 miles at Pocono Raceway.
• Buddy Baker won the first pole.

Chassis selections for the Pocono 400: see the list of many teams and what chassis were selected by the team to run at Pocono Raceway:
MISSING? why are some teams missing? like the #11, #24 or others? those teams do not report what chassis in the race previews or prs.
#1-Jamie McMurray: Manion and the No. 1 Banana Boat team will bring Chassis #1106 to Pocono Raceway this weekend. This chassis has made two race appearances this season, the first at Bristol with a seventh-place finish and the second appearance at the Sprint Showdown, resulting in a third-place finish. This chassis was also brought to the Pocono test. This chassis was used in 2011 at Texas in November, Dover in October, Michigan (June and August), and Charlotte (Coke 600, and All-Star).
#2-Brad Keselowski: will race chassis PRS-818 during Sunday's Pocono 400 at Pocono Raceway. Brad Keselowski last drove this chassis to a ninth-place finish at Martinsville Speedway in April.
#5-Kasey Kahne: Crew chief Kenny Francis will unload Hendrick Motorsports Chassis No. 5-729 for Sunday's race at Pocono. This is a new car that has not been raced.
#9-Marcos Ambrose: The No. 9 RPM team has prepared chassis No. 805 for this weekend's NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Race at Pocono Raceway. This DEWALT Ford was run previously this season at Richmond and Phoenix.
#10-Dave Blaney: TBR bought Chassis No. 356 in the off-season from Richard Childress Racing. This will mark Blaney first start in the chassis. Teammate David Reutimann drove the chassis at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Auto Club Speedway, Texas Motor Speedway, Kansas Speedway and Dover International Speedway this season. He had his best showing in the chassis at Texas Motor Speedway when he drove from the 31st starting spot to finish in 26th place. His best qualifying effort was at Kansas Speedway where he qualified in the 16th spot.
#14-Tony Stewart: Chassis No. 14-722: This is a brand-new racecar that has never turned a wheel on the racetrack, but it has been wind-tunnel tested numerous times.
#15-Clint Bowyer: Primary Chassis No. 733 is a new chassis racing for the first time at Pocono Raceway. Chassis No. 721 is the backup and previously served backup duty at Las Vegas, California, Texas, Kansas, Darlington, All-Star and Charlotte but never raced.
#16-Greg Biffle: Primary: RK-777: Last ran Kansas - finished fifth. Backup: RK-786 Last ran Homestead - finished 35th.
#17-Matt Kenseth: Primary: RK-810 (last run at Texas).
#22-A.J. Allmendinger: and his Todd Gordon-led Penske Racing No. 22 Team will be racing their "PRS-819" Shell-Pennzoil Dodge Charger in this weekend's Pocono 400. This chassis has been raced only once; in the April 1 Goody's 500 at Martinsville, where Dinger started 27th and finished second. The team will use their "PRS-814" Dodge Charger in the Wednesday and Thursday test days. That car will also serve as the backup Dodge Charger.
#27-Paul Menard: will pilot Chassis No. 384 from the Richard Childress Racing NASCAR Sprint Cup Series stable. This No. 27 Chevrolet was built new for 2012 competition and was last seen on track at Auto Club Speedway in March where Menard finished 19th after starting from the 27th position in the rain-shortened Auto Club 400.
#29-Kevin Harvick: will pilot Chassis No. 374 from the Richard Childress Racing NASCAR Sprint Cup Series stable. Built new for competition during the 2012 season, Harvick utilized this chassis at Auto Club Speedway in March and Darlington Raceway in May finishing fourth and 16th, respectively.
#31-Jeff Burton: will race chassis No. 385 from the Richard Childress Racing NASCAR Sprint Cup Series stable this weekend. This No. 31 Chevrolet, built new for the 2012 season, was utilized twice this season at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in March (started-22nd, finished-14th) and Texas Motor Speedway in April (started-24th, finished-29th).
#39-Ryan Newman: Chassis No. 39-686: In five previous starts, Chassis No. 39-686 has one-top five and three top-10 finishes. The chassis already has three starts to its credit this season, including most recently in the non-points-paying All-Star Race at Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway. In the All-Star Race, Newman finished 10th after battling with a loose-handling car throughout the 90-lap event. Prior to the non-points race, Newman used Chassis No. 39-686 at Kansas Speedway in Kansas City and at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. At Kansas, Newman ran in the top-15 for most of the race but, with less than 70 laps to go, he was forced to the pits for an unscheduled stop with what he thought was a deflating tire. He exited the pits one lap down to the leaders, ending his shot at a top-10 finish and relegating him to 20th place. At Las Vegas, Newman qualified a disappointing 18th but made a strong drive into the top-10, where he ran for most of the race. He drove from eighth to a solid fourth-place finish in the final four laps at the 1.5-mile oval. Last season, chassis 39-686 made two starts at intermediate racetracks during the 2011 Chase for the Sprint Cup Championship, which resulted in one top-10 finish. The chassis made its debut in the Bank of America 500 at Charlotte in October, where Newman started sixth, led six laps and finished a solid 10th. In the second start for the chassis, at the AAA Texas 500 at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, Newman recovered from a loose wheel and came back from two laps down to finish a respectable 16th.
#42-Juan Pablo Montoya: Crew Chief Chris "Shine" Heroy and the No. 42 Target team will bring Chassis #1108 to Pocono Raceway this weekend. This is the first time this chassis will be on-track in the 2012 season. This chassis raced at both Michigan International Speedway events in 2011, finishing 28th and 30th.
#43-Aric Almirola:: The team has prepared chassis No. 742 for the Pocono race. Almirola drove this car to a 19th-place finish earlier this season at Darlington Raceway.
#48-Jimmie Johnson:: Chassis No. 681 serves as the primary for Johnson at Pocono. Chassis No. 669 serves as the backup.
#55-Mark Martin: Primary - Chassis 720 - This chassis raced at Kansas and Las Vegas. Backup - Chassis 726 has raced at Fontana and Darlington.
#88-Dale Earnhardt, Jr.: This weekend, crew chief Steve Letarte and the No. 88 team will unload Hendrick Motorsports Chassis No. 88-726. This is a new chassis that has not been raced.
#99-Carl Edwards: RK-815 - Ran at Darlington, finished 7th.

Allmendinger in the No. 22 Penske Racing Dodge, Aric Almirola in the No. 43 Richard Petty Motorsports Ford, Kasey Kahne in the No. 5 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet, Joey Logano in the No. 20 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota and Jamie McMurray in the No. 1 Earnhardt-Ganassi Racing Chevrolet . . . . compared to what was run at Pocono last year, there are both compound and construction changes on both the left- and right-side tires . . . as on all NASCAR ovals greater than one mile in length, teams are required to run inner liners on all four tire positions at Pocono . . . air pressure in those inner liners should be 12-25 psi greater than that of the outer tire.
