· The official opening of Kansas Speedway was in 2001, with the first events being an ARCA race and a NASCAR K&N Pro Series West race on the same day  June 2.

Kenseth wins at Kansas: #17-Matt Kenseth won the Hollywood Casino 400 Sprint Cup Series race at Kansas Speedway for his 3rd win of year and 24th career win.
#56-Truex, Jr. finished 2nd followed by #27-Menard, #5-Kahne, #14-Steart, #15-Bowyer, #88-Smith, #2-Keselowski, #48-Johnson, and #24-Gordon.
#48-Johnson led a lap early in the race while #2-Keselowski did not lead a lap. With Johnson finishing just behind Keselowski, Keselowski's points lead remains at 7.
There were a season high 14 cautions for 66 yellow flag laps. There were 16 lead changes among 10X drivers. The average speed was 115.086mph.
The estimated attendence was 78,000, up from 75,000 in the spring race but down from 82,000 last October.

Rain Out Procedures: the rain-out qualifying procedure for all three NASCAR national series is as follows: If first practice is run, but qualifying is unable to take place, the starting lineup will be based on speeds from the car's fastest lap from the first practice, with top-35 cars in owner points no longer segregated from the non-top 35 cars. Previously, the top 35 cars lined up in front of all other eligible car owners.

Testing at Kansas Wednesday & Thursday: UPDATES: Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series teams will get additional track time at Kansas Speedway this week to test setups following the track repaving. Sprint Cup teams will test 2:00-6:00pm/et on Wednesday and 9:30am-12:30pm/et on Thursday. Nationwide teams will test Thursday 2:00-6:00pm/et. Any news and/or results will be posted.(10-17-2012)
UPDATE: So what will come of all those notes Jeff Gordon's #24 Hendrick Motorsports team accumulated over the last 12 years at Kansas? Into the recycling bin they go. After a two-hour Kansas test session that was delayed by rain, Gordon  a two-time Kansas winner  said he won't rely on past experiences at the 1.5-mile oval. The four-time series champion said the track's recently completed repave project that placed fresh asphalt and variable banking in the turns added a certain mystique to Sunday's Hollywood Casino 400, the sixth race in the 10-race Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup.
There is one guarantee come Sunday: Speed. Of the 47 cars that tested Wednesday afternoon at Kansas, 30 of them turned a faster lap than the current track qualifying record of 180.856 mph set by #17-Matt Kenseth in 2005. #16-Greg Biffle turned the fastest lap of the test session at 184.900 (29.205 seconds).
Among the 47 cars that tested, four were the redesigned 2013 models. The teams testing the 2013 cars were Michael Waltrip Racing, Penske Racing, Earnhardt Ganassi Racing and Wood Brothers Racing.
Kansas Speedway is the third of three 2012 repaves, joining Michigan International Speedway and Pocono Raceway. Drivers and NASCAR officials alike said they expect the racing grooves to multiply as more rubber accumulates, a phenomenon that made Pocono and Michigan one of the more competitive events of the season. UPDATE 2: #11-Denny Hamlin's wreck wasn't the only incident in an eventful Thursday test session. Casey Mears' #13 Ford twice dropped oil on the track, forcing the Germain Racing team to abandon the test car and bring out the primary that will race on Sunday. "Strange issue today," Mears posted on his Twitter account. "Motor fine? Pumping oil out for some reason?" As reporters were waiting for Hamlin after his second visit to the care center, the engine blew in Tony Stewart's #14 Chevy, again oiling the track, forcing the team to change power plants. Because of the series of stoppages, NASCAR extended the test session an extra 25 minutes to 1:55pm/et. Regan Smith, subbing for Dale Earnhardt Jr., posted the fastest lap at 186.143 mph.(NASCAR Wire Service)(10-18-2012)

#1-Jamie McMurray: Crew Chief Kevin "Bono" Manion and the No. 1 Bass Pro Shops team will bring Chassis #1208 to Kansas Speedway this weekend. This chassis has raced this season at Las Vegas, Kansas and both races at Michigan with the best finish of eighth (Las Vegas).
#2-Brad Keselowski: The No. 2 Miller Lite Dodge Charger team will race chassis PRS-832 during Sunday's Hollywood Casino 400 at Kansas Speedway. Keselowski last raced this chassis to a victory at Chicagoland Speedway in the opening race to the Chase for the Championship.
#5-Kasey Kahne: For Sunday's race at Kansas, crew chief Kenny Francis has selected Hendrick Motorsports Chassis No. 5-724. In four starts, this car has scored three top-three finishes, including a win at the 1.5-mile Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway in May.
#9-Marcos Ambrose: The No. 9 RPM team has prepared chassis No. 784 for this weekend's NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Kansas Speedway. This Black & Decker Ford was run previously this season at California, Kansas Michigan and Atlanta.
#14-Tony Stewart: Chassis No. 14-735: This car debuted in the Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway where Stewart qualified 28th and rallied to score a top-10 finish. Chassis No. 14-735 will make its second career start Sunday at Kansas.
#15-Clint Bowyer: Primary chassis No. 738 raced at Atlanta. Chassis No. 716 is the backup. No. 716 raced earlier this season in Las Vegas, Kansas, Charlotte, Kentucky and Indianapolis. Chassis No. 716's finished sixth at Las Vegas.

This car was first raced by teammate Brad Keselowski in the April Martinsville race (started seventh & finish ninth). It was also the No. 2 team's primary car in the first Pocono race (started 31st & finished 18th) and the September Atlanta race (start 21st & finished third). The "PRS-819" Shell-Pennzoil Dodge Charger in the testing this week at Kansas. It will serve as the backup for the Sunday race. It is the car that AJ Allmendinger raced in the Martinsville race (finished second after starting 27th).
#27-Paul Menard: will pilot Chassis No. 351 from the Richard Childress Racing NASCAR Sprint Cup Series stable in this weekend's Kansas 400. This Chevrolet was last raced at Atlanta Motor Speedway in September, where Menard started 18th and finished eighth. This chassis was also utilized in numerous test sessions this year and was raced last season at Texas Motor Speedway (April - started 19th/finished fifth), Kansas Speedway (June - started ninth/finished 19th) and Dover International Speedway (October - started third/ finished 16th).
#29-Kevin Harvick: will pilot Chassis No.378 from the Richard Childress Racing NASCAR Sprint Cup Series stable in the Kansas 400. The No. 29 team utilized this car twice during the 2011 season at Chicagoland Speedway in September (started 30th, finished second) and Kansas Speedway in October (started 14th, finished sixth). Harvick drove this Chevrolet in 2012 to a sixth-place finish at Kansas Speedway in April, a 10th-place result at Michigan International Speedway in June, and most recently a fifth-place finish at Atlanta Motor Speedway in September.
#31-Jeff Burton: will race chassis No. 393 from the Richard Childress Racing NASCAR Sprint Cup Series stable. This No. 31 Chevrolet has been utilized four times during the 2012 NSCS season at Auto Club Speedway in March (started-19th, finished-22nd), Darlington Raceway in May (started-10th, finished-18th), Michigan International Speedway in August (started-32nd, finished-19th) and Atlanta Motor Speedway in September (started-26th, finished-12th).
#39-Ryan Newman: Chassis No. 39-733: It's been five starts and four top-10 finishes for Chassis No. 39-733 since making its debut at IndianapolisMotor Speedway in July. At Indianapolis, Newman and his team overcame ill handling and used quick pit work to help engineer a run into the top-10. The crew turned the car around in just a couple of days and took the same chassis to Pocono (Pa.) Raceway, where it finished sixth. Two weeks later, the chassis was back on track at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn, where it finished eighth. The chassis earned its first top-five finish at Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet, Ill. The chassis last raced three weeks ago at Dover (Del.) International Speedway. Newman qualified eighth but got bitten by an untimely caution flag, which pinned him a lap down to the leaders. He finished 21st, No. 39-733's only finish outside the top-10 to date.
#42-Juan Pablo Montoya: Crew Chief Chris "Shine" Heroy and the No. 42 Target team will bring Chassis #1205 to Kansas Speedway this weekend. This chassis raced previously at Las Vegas, Kansas and Kentucky with the best finish being 14th (Kentucky).
#43-Aric Almirola:: The No. 43 team has prepared chassis No. 783 for Kansas. This chassis was last run at Michigan in August. It is also the car in which Almirola captured the pole at Charlotte in May.
#55-Mark Martin: Primary - 726 - raced at California, Darlington and Indy. Backup - 722 - raced at Bristol (Aug.) & All Star Race
#88-Regan Smith: This weekend at Kansas, crew chief Steve Letarte and the No. 88 crew will unload Hendrick Motorsports Chassis No. 88-716. Earnhardt first raced this chassis to a seventh-place finish at Kansas in April. Earnhardt also drove this car to two top-four results at Michigan International Speedway, reaching Victory Lane there in June.
