· Construction began on Charlotte Motor Speedway (CMS) in 1959.
· The track's first NASCAR Sprint Cup race was held on June 19, 1960 - won by Joe Lee Johnson.
· The track was repaved mid-season in 1994.
· The track name changed from Charlotte Motor Speedway to Lowe's Motor Speedway in 1999. It changed back to Charlotte Motor Speedway for the 2010 season.
· The track was re-paved again before the 2006 season.

NASCAR Numbers Heading to Charlotte:
31: The race-high number of laps led by winner Jamie McMurray in Saturday night's NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race. In seven previous starts in the non-points event, McMurray had never led a lap, but on Saturday night he took the top spot on Lap 41 and led 31 of the final 50 laps.
15: The finishing position of Janet Guthrie in the 1976 World 600 (now Coca-Cola 600) at Charlotte Motor Speedway. That race was Guthrie's NASCAR debut. She stayed out of harm's way in what turned out to be a war of attrition and posted what is still the best finish by a female driver in NASCAR's longest race.
1,100: The number of racing miles completed by Tony Stewart on May 27, 2001, when "Smoke" completed the Indianapolis/Charlotte double for the second time. Stewart ran sixth in the Indianapolis 500 and third (after starting 43rd) in the Coca-Cola 600, to date the best combined result in the same-day double involving those two races.
91: The number of minutes it took Kurt Busch to travel from Indianapolis 500 qualifying to the NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race in Charlotte by plane and helicopter on Saturday. #4-Harvick finished 2nd followed by #20-Kenseth, #99-Edwards, #1-McMurray, #55-Vickers, #24-Gordon, #27-Menard, #18-Busch and #2-Keselowski.
#48-Johnson, who won the pole, won from the pole for his 14th time in 33 poles.
#24-Gordon, who came into the race as the points leader, finished 7th and still leads the points by 11 over #20-Kenseth.

How to Calculate Track Speeds: use the formula Speed = Distance divided by Time. Distance is Track Length, and Lap Time into Hours. Once hour is 3600 seconds, so the calculation for a 48 second lap at Daytona(2.5 miles) would be: Speed = 2.5 x (3600/48), = 2.5 x 75 = 187.500mph. For a 19 second lap at Bristol(.533 miles): Speed = .533 x (3600/19), = .533 x 189.474 = a speed of 100.990mph
