· After several events were held on the streets of Watkins Glen, a permanent facility was opened in 1956.
· The first NASCAR Sprint Cup race was in 1957, won by Buck Baker (83.064 mph, 08/04/1957).
· After a six-year absence, NASCAR returned to The Glen in 1964 and 1965.
· After a 21-year absence, the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series returned to The Glen, and has run one race a year there since 1986.

Logano wins at Watkins Glen: #22-Joey Logano won the Cheez-It 355 at The Glen Sprint Cup Series race at Watkins Glen International for his 2nd win of the season, 1st win at Watkins Glen and 10th career win.
#18-Busch finished 2nd followed by #4-Harvick, #20-Kenseth, #41-Busch, #15-Bowyer, #2-Keselowski, #19-Edwards, #9-Hornish, Jr, and #48-Johnson.
Harvick ran out of fuel while leading on the final lap and was passed by Logano and Busch coming to the checkered flag. The only lap Logano led was the final one.
#18-Busch's 2nd place finished moved him up to 30th in the points standings and puts him into the Chase (as long as he can remain in the top 30 through the Richmond race).
Pole sitter #47-Allmendinger was running 6th on lap 50 when the car lost power and he went a lap down. He climbed back to 14th place before running out of gas late in the race and finishing 24th.
#4-Harvick continues to be the points leader now 42 points over #22-Logano.
There were 8 lead changes among 8 drivers. There were 5 cautions for 16 yellow flag laps.
There was a red flag on lap 51 for track cleanup after an accident.

" Number of officials on pit road during race reduced from 43 to 10.
" 45 HD cameras will be mounted on the grandstand side of each track and directed toward pit road to monitor pit stops and officials call or clear penalties.
" Every camera looks at two pit stalls and the cameras record 100 percent of the race.
" Video feeds from cameras are fed to a production truck in the TV compound where eight NASCAR officials monitor stops for violations.
" Pit road speeding penalties will still be called from race control based on scoring loops.
" Pit stalls are laser measured
" Missing Lug Nuts are no longer a penalty.
" Fueling can start once car is stopped.

Road Course Qualifying Format: Qualifying will consist of two elimination rounds to determine the starting grid. The first elimination round will last 25 minutes and include all cars. The 12 cars that post the fastest single lap will advance to the final round. The remaining cars will be sorted based on their times posted in the first round of qualifying in descending order. The final qualifying round will last 10 minutes and the fastest single lap time will determine positions 1 through 12 in descending order. The fastest driver in the final round will earn the pole position for the race.

NASCAR moves up Watkins Glen drivers' meeting: NASCAR will push the start of the driver/crew chief back to only one hour before the start of Sunday's Sprint Cup race at Watkins Glen. The driver/crew chief meeting will take place at 1:00pm/et. The start time listed for the race is 2:00pm/et. Typically, the driver/crew chief meeting is held two hours before the start of the race. NASCAR states that this is an experiment for this weekend to create a shorter window between the meeting and driver introductions, which are scheduled to begin at 1:30pm/et. The driver/crew chief meeting often lasts between five and 10 minutes, depending on the number of dignitaries introduced and questions from competitors. After dignitaries are introduced, competitors watch a video outlining various rules for the race and can ask questions afterward.(NBC Sports)(8-7-2015)

Chase clinch scenarios at Watkins Glen: OK, there are a lot of numbers, but it's not as confusing as it may look. There are 11 different winners. There are five races left in the regular season. And there will be 16 drivers in the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup. In other words, after this weekend, the playoff picture will come closer into focus. Here's where we stand now:
With the exception of #18-Kyle Busch, all drivers with multiple wins have clinched a spot in the Chase, assuming all start the remainder of the regular season races. None of the single-win drivers have fully clinched a Chase spot yet. Here's the reason: There's still the potential of a zero-win points leader - and the regular season points leader is guaranteed a Chase spot, regardless of win total. Which leads us to the math above...
Because there aren't enough races left to fill out the Chase Grid with more than 16 unique winners, if there is a repeat winner at Watkins Glen this weekend, all single-win drivers will clinch a spot as long as they have also clinched a top-30 spot. All except Carl Edwards have already done this, and Edwards will likely accomplish the feat this weekend.
If there's a new winner this weekend, a number of different scenarios can play out. This weekend, Kevin Harvick can mathematically guarantee that the points leader at regular season's end has a win. If he leaves Watkins Glen with a 176-point lead over the highest non-winning driver, it would guarantee the points leader after race No. 26 would have at least one win - and all one-win drivers would then clinch a spot as long as they also have clinched a top 30 spot. If Harvick doesn't accomplish the above, and there's a new winner, single-win drivers could lock up a Chase spot, but would need help (a clinching single-win driver would need to ensure that the lowest ranked winner could not pass him/her in the points - and that includes drivers who could potentially win).(NASCAR)(8-6-2015)

How to Calculate Track Speeds: use the formula Speed = Distance divided by Time. Distance is Track Length, and Lap Time into Hours. Once hour is 3600 seconds, so the calculation for a 48 second lap at Daytona(2.5 miles) would be: Speed = 2.5 x (3600/48), = 2.5 x 75 = 187.500mph. For a 19 second lap at Bristol(.533 miles): Speed = .533 x (3600/19), = .533 x 189.474 = a speed of 100.990mph

Minimum Recommended Inflation -- Sprint Cup:
Left Front -- 23 psi; Right Front -- 21 psi;

Minimum Recommended Inflation -- Xfinity:
Left Front -- 22 psi; Right Front -- 20 psi;
Left Rear -- 17 psi; Right Rear -- 17 psi

Notes: Teams in both the NASCAR Sprint Cup and Xfinity Series will run the same Goodyear tire code (D-4590) on all four tire positions at Watkins Glen . . . this is the same tire these teams have run at The Glen since 2013 . . . Xfinity teams also ran this tire at Road America last season and are scheduled to do so at all three of their road course races this season . . . as on all NASCAR road courses, teams will not run inner liners in their tires at Watkins Glen.

Wet Weather Tires: Goodyear will also bring its wet weather radials (D-4215) to Watkins Glen for use by both Sprint Cup and Xfinity Series teams, should NASCAR decide that conditions warrant . . . Sprint Cup teams did not have to use the wet weather tires earlier this season at Sonoma, the first race with that possibility in the NASCAR rule book. . . Xfinity teams ran these wet weather tires at Road America last June.

K&N Pro Series East: Goodyear will also supply the tires for the K&N race at Watkins Glen this week . . . teams will run the same tire code (D-2265) on all four tire positions . . . this is also Goodyear's right-side tire on short tracks, and is run at all road courses in the K&N East and K&N West Series . . . teams will get three sets for the event -- one for practice, one for qualifying/start of race and one additional for the race . . . Goodyear will also bring its D-3070 wet weather tires for the K&N Series, and teams are allowed up to three sets of those.
