Hamlin wins Sprint All-Star Race: #11-Denny Hamlin won the Sprint All-Star Sprint Cup Series race at Charlotte Motor Speedway for his first All-Star win, the first All-Star race win for Joe Gibbs Racing and first Toyota team to win the All-Star race. #11-Hamlin is the fourth driver to win from race from the pole and the fifth time it has happened. #11-Hamlin beat #2-Keselowski off pit road during the final pit stops between segment 4 & 5, but Keselowski sped off pit road and had to restart at the rear on the restart. Hamlin held off #40Harvick who put on a charge early in the final segment before fading and finishing 2nd.
#4-Harvick finished 2nd (for the 2nd year in a row) followed by #41-Busch, #24-Gordon, #20-Kenseth, #18-Busch, #5-Kahne, #22-Logano, #2-Keselowski and #88-Earnhardt Jr.

Hamlin wins Sprint All-Star Race Pole: #11-Denny Hamlin won the pole for the Sprint All-Star Sprint Cup Series race at Charlotte Motor Speedway with a time of 111.227 seconds for his first All-Star Race pole. Qualifying was different from normal, with three timed laps, including one four-tire pit stop and no pit road speeding penalty for the four-tire pit stop. Aggregate total time in seconds.
#16-Biffle will start 2nd followed by #2-Keselowski, #15-Bowyer, #5-Kahne, #10-Patrick, #88-Earnhardt Jr., #43-Almirola, #24-Gordon and #19-Edwards.

Eligibility Criteria for the 2015 Sprint All-Star Race & Showdown |

All-Star Race an earlier start next year?: Could the Sprint All-Star Race have a different starting time next season? Steve O'Donnell, NASCAR executive vice president and chief racing development officer, said Monday on SiruisXM NASCAR Radio's "The Morning Drive" that series officials will consider that matter for next year. Saturday's All-Star race didn't begin until 9:42pm/et. The second segment took the green flag at 10:02 p.m. The third segment began at 10:23 p.m. The fourth segment started at 10:43 p.m., and the mandatory pit stop before the start of the final pit stop took place at 11:03 p.m. The event featured no cautions other than the breaks between each segment. Thus, if there had been debris cautions or accidents or such, the start of each segment could have been pushed back significantly. Here's what O'Donnell said on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio about the start time for the All-Star race: "I think it is something we want to look at. ... I've got kids who like watching sports earlier, and I hear the same thing. Rule change allows Kenseth and Newman to be eligible for All-Star Race: A rule change for the Sprint All-Star Race will allow #20-Matt Kenseth and #31-Ryan Newman to compete in the event, NASCAR confirmed to NASCAR Talk on Thursday. NASCAR stated that it changed the eligibility requirements so that any full-time driver who is a former Cup champion or former All-Star winner is eligible for the non-points event. Previously, a driver had to have won a Cup title within the past 10 years or won the All-Star event within the past 10 years to be eligible. Eliminating the limit on when a driver won a Cup title or the All-Star race is important for Kenseth and Newman. Neither driver meets the criteria of a race win either this year or the preceding year to be eligible. Both were winless last year and have not won this year. Kenseth's title came in 2003. In the last 10 seasons, fans have voted 10 different drivers into the NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race at Charlotte Motor Speedway, including names like Danica Patrick, Kasey Kahne and Dale Earnhardt Jr. You never know who will win. That's what makes voting so important. Polls are open for the 2015 Sprint Fan Vote - and unpredictability will take center stage until the NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race on Saturday, May 16. Fans can vote their favorite Sprint Fan Vote-eligible driver into the All-Star Race by casting ballots daily. Voting closes at 7:00pm/et on Friday, May 15, one day before the green flag. For the first time in program history, votes shared via Facebook and/or Twitter will count as double towards a driver's total. 2016 Rules could debut at All-Star race? NASCAR heavily is considering using the May 16 Sprint All Star race as a trial run of the rules package for the 2016 season and has begun informing Sprint Cup teams of the possibility, multiple sources have told MotorSportsTalk. During a state of the sport address to open Monday's Media Tour, NASCAR executive vice president and chief racing development officer Steve O'Donnell noted the All-Star Race was the goal for unveiling the rules for next season. The 2015 rules were delivered in September, which O'Donnell said was the earliest release yet. "We anticipate beating that marker in 2016, and we'll look to bring the rules package to the teams as early as we can with a target date of around the All-Star Race for this year," O'Donnell said.
An official with direct knowledge of the All-Star Race proposal said Charlotte Motor Speedway and Sprint were supportive of using the 2016 rules because it also would prevent teams from getting a jump on preparing for the Coca-Cola 600 and increasing the likelihood of a lackluster race. The official spoke on the condition of anonymity because the plan wasn't finalized.
The Sprint All-Star Race could use a jolt of relevance. In nine editions since the repaving of Charlotte in 2006, there has been one lead during the final five laps of an event billed as promoting a no-holds-barred style. In the past three Sprint All-Star Races, the winner has led the final 10 laps. But a potential drawback for NASCAR could be whether the sneak preview of the 2016 rules delivers a better version of the racing than with the current rules that will be featured over four hours the following week at Charlotte in the season's longest race. There's no timetable for the decision on using next year's rules in the All-Star Race, but NASCAR tested some ideas for next year during a session last month at Charlotte. More testing is expected to occur at Atlanta Motor Speedway next month and at Charlotte in March. This year's rules will feature a significant decline in downforce and about a reduction of about 125 horsepower. SPRINT SHOWDOWN:
Garage Opens: Friday, May 15 at 7:00am/et.
Final Practice: Noon-1:40 p.m. ET on FOX Sports 1
Qualifying: 4:15 pm/et on FOX Sports 1
Two-round session.
The first round is 20 minutes, with the top 12 advancing to the second round. There will be a seven-minute break after the first round.
The second round is five minutes. The fastest single lap speed will determine starting positions 1-12 in descending order.
Race: 7:15 pm/et on FOX Sports 1
Two segments, 20 laps each. The winner of each segment will advance to the NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race.
The winner of the first segment will report directly to the garage at the conclusion of Lap 20.
All laps (green flag and yellow flag) will be counted during segment 1.
Only green flag laps will count during segment 2.
Between segment 1 and 2, there will be a yellow flag at which time teams can pit and may elect to change tires, add fuel and make normal chassis adjustments. Cars pitting will not retain their position on the race track.
Crews will be permitted to work on the cars if the race is stopped due to a red flag. However, all work must be performed on pit road or garage area only.
SPRINT FAN VOTE
· The winner of the Sprint Fan Vote will be announced in Victory Lane following the conclusion of the Sprint Showdown, and that driver will advance to the NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race.

Three timed laps, including one four-tire pit stop
There will be no pit road speeding penalty enforced for the four-tire pit stop. Aggregate total time will set the starting lineup for the NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race.
A five-second penalty will be enforced for the following violations: too many crew members in contact with the pit service area; crew members over the wall too soon; throwing equipment; removing equipment; uncontrolled tire; running over equipment.
Pitting outside the box will be a disqualification.
Race: Saturday, May 16 at 9 p.m. ET on FOX Sports 1
Five segments.
Segments 1 through 4 will be 25 laps each.
Segment 5 will be 10 laps.
Teams may enter pit road during the yellow flag period between segments 1 through 4, but will not retain their running position.
All laps (green flag and yellow flag) will count during Segments 1 through 4.
Only green flag laps will count during segment 5.
The running order at the completion of the fourth segment will be repositioned based on the average finish for the first four segments. Ties in average finish will be broken by finishing position in the fourth segment.
All cars must then enter pit road for a mandatory four-tire pit stop.
The order of cars returning to the track will determine the starting order of the fifth segment.

NASCAR announces All-Star Race format: Showcasing the sport's top talent, NASCAR announced changes for the 2015 NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race that will elevate the excitement of this annual classic. Race coverage is set for 7:00pm/et, Saturday, May 16 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. The field will include race winners from the 2014 and 2015 seasons, as well as all former NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race winners and NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champions who are full-time competitors - all of whom will compete for the $1 million prize awarded to the winner. Prior to this change, former NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race winners and NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champions were eligible only if they accomplished the feat within the previous 10 seasons.
In addition, the five-segment race will increase by a total of 20 laps, with the first four segments each scheduled for 25 laps as compared to 20 in recent years. With the final 10-lap shootout, the race now totals 110 laps.
The 2015 NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race will have a minimum field of 20 drivers. There are currently 17 drivers eligible, with three additional spots available. Two of those are reserved for the segment winners from the two 20-lap Sprint Showdown segments beginning at 7:00pm/et, Friday, May 15 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
The final spot belongs to the Sprint Fan Vote winner; voting at www.NASCAR.com/sprintfanvote and the NASCAR MOBILE application closes at 7:00pm/et on May 15. The winner of the Sprint Fan Vote will be announced in Victory Lane following the conclusion of the Sprint Showdown.
Drivers in the 2015 NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race will compete in cars that conform to all 2015 rules. The race format will consist of a total of five segments: four 25-lap segments, with the average finish of the first four segments determining the order cars will enter pit road for a mandatory four-tire pit stop following the fourth segment. Running order ties will be broken by the finish of the fourth segment. The order of the cars returning to the track following the mandatory pit stop determines the starting order for a final winner-take-all 10-lap segment.
All laps will count in segments one through four. In the fifth and final segment, only green flag laps will be counted. There will be optional pit stops during the breaks following each of the first three segments, with the field set by the pit stop/stay out positioning during the five caution laps.

NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race - Poles:
· Terry Labonte won the inaugural Coors Light pole for the NASCAR Sprint All-Star race in 1985.
· 16 drivers have won Coors Light poles for the NASCAR Sprint All-Star race, led by Bill Elliott with four. Kyle Busch leads all active drivers with three. Carl Edwards has won the last two consecutive poles for the Sprint All-Star Race (2013, 2014).
· Four drivers have won consecutive Coors Light poles for the NASCAR Sprint All-Star race: Davey Allison (1991, 1992) Bill Elliott (1997, 1998), Kyle Busch (2011, 2012) and Carl Edwards (2013, 2014).
· The NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race has been won from the pole position four times; the first three came in consecutive years: Dale Earnhardt (1990) and Davey Allison (1991 and 1992). Kurt Busch posted the fourth win from the pole in 2010.

#3-Austin Dillon will pilot Chassis No. 481 in the Sprint Showdown at Charlotte Motor Speedway. In March, Dillon raced this Dow Chevrolet to a 16th-place finish at Auto Club Speedway and a 39th-place finish at Atlanta Motor Speedway. This is the same Chevrolet SS that Dillon raced to a 25th-place finish at Homestead in November of 2014. That year, he also raced it to a 13th-place finish at Charlotte in October, a 16th-place finish at Chicago in September, a 22nd-place finish at Michigan in August and a 10th-place finish at Indianapolis in July.
#4-Kevin Harvick: will pilot the #4 Hunt Brothers Pizza Chevrolet SS built on Chassis No. 4-846 in Saturday night's NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race at Charlotte. Built in 2014, Chassis No. 4-846 made its debut at Bristol in March, when it started 27th and led 28 laps before being collected in a late-race accident and finishing 39th. It made its second appearance at Dover in June, when it started eighth, led 24 laps and finished 17th. At Pocono in August, No. 4-846 started sixth, led five laps and finished second. In its final appearance of 2014, Harvick started fourth, led 17 laps and finished fifth in September at Richmond. Chassis No. 4-846 made its 2015 debut at Auto Club Speedway, where Harvick started second, led 34 laps and finished second to Brad Keselowski by 0.710 of a second in a green-white-checkered finish.
#5-Kasey Kahne: Crew chief Keith Rodden has selected Hendrick Motorsports Chassis No. 5-923 for Saturday night's race at Charlotte. Kahne raced with the chassis at the Fontana, California, event in March.
#14-Tony Stewart: Chassis No. 14-898 debuted in August 2014 at Michigan with Jeff Burton at the wheel. Burton qualified 27th and felt the car was capable of advancing to the front, but a cracked tailpipe caught the heat shields underneath the car on fire around lap 65. It took 24 laps in the garage to make repairs, and Burton finished a disappointing 37th. Chassis No. 14-898 returned to action Labor Day weekend at Atlanta with Stewart. After starting 12th and passing five cars on the first lap, Stewart continued to show strength, climbing all the way to fourth place by lap 15. Changing track conditions saw Stewart drop to 12th by lap 100, but in working the low line around the track's corners, Stewart made the racecar work for him. Unfortunately, a flat right-front tire on lap 171 sent Stewart into the turn-two wall. The right side of Chassis No. 14-898 scraped along the SAFER Barrier and then moments later, the tire shredded, ripping apart sheet metal and suspension components. Too damaged to repair, the car suffered a DNF (Did Not Finish). The car was busy afterward, testing at Charlotte Sept. 29-30 and at Homestead Oct. 28-29 before competing in the season finale at Homestead Nov. 16 where an overheating engine left Chassis No. 14-898 with a 43rd place finish. With new Chevrolet SS sheet metal honed in the wind tunnel this offseason, the car returned to Atlanta Feb. 26-March 1 for its fourth career start and second at Atlanta. It was a laborious 500-mile race, with the car starting 39th and finishing 30th. The All-Star Race at Charlotte will be its second start of 2015.
#15-Clint Bowyer: Chassis No. 776 serves as the primary chassis for Bowyer for the Sprint All-Star race. This chassis has not seen race action this season. Chassis No. 816 has served as back-up at several races this season.
#24-Jeff Gordon: Crew chief Alan Gustafson has selected Hendrick Motorsports Chassis No. 24-907 for Saturday night's race. The chassis has been raced four times previously with Gordon finishing 18th at Las Vegas in its only start of 2015. Last year, the 43-year-old driver finished 29th at Texas in November and posted runner-up finishes at Charlotte Motor Speedway in October and Chicagoland Speedway in September racing the chassis.
#27-Paul Menard will utilize chassis No. 487 this weekend in the Sprint Showdown at Charlotte Motor Speedway. This Serta/Menards Chevrolet SS was utilized earlier this year at Auto Club Speedway (Start: 11/ Finish: 4) and Atlanta Motor Speedway (Start: 13/ Finish: 13).
#31-Ryan Newman will drive chassis No. 461 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. This will be the first time this season the #31 Cat/Quicken Loans Chevy team will utilize the car in competition. Back on April 13, this car participated in a three-day test at Kentucky Speedway.
#41-Kurt Busch will pilot Chassis No. 794 in the Sprint All-Star Race at Charlotte. Formerly a #10 chassis for Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR) teammate Danica Patrick, Chassis No. 794 debuted in May 2013 at Charlotte, where Patrick started 24th and finished 29th after being involved in a multicar accident on lap 320 of 400. Its next event was in June 2013 at Kentucky, where she started 29th and finished 23rd. Chassis No. 794 next saw action in August 2013 at Atlanta, where Patrick started and finished 21st. It was tested twice in 2014 - at Michigan and at Homestead. Chassis No. 794 will see its first laps of 2015 this weekend at Charlotte.
#48-Jimmie Johnson: For this weekend's event, crew chief Chad Knaus has selected chassis No. 48-922, which last raced at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in March. The backup car is 48-824, which last raced at Pocono Raceway in June 2014.
#55-David Ragan: will drive primary chassis 775, which Brett Moffitt drove to a 29th place finish at Texas, Backup: 814 - finished eighth at Atlanta with Moffitt. In 2014 it finished 16th at Indianapolis with Clint Bowyer. Vickers finished 13th at Richmond in September & 37th at Charlotte in October.
#88-Dale Earnhardt Jr.: This weekend, crew chief Greg Ives will unload Hendrick Motorsports Chassis No. 88-882. Earnhardt most recently raced the chassis to a 20th-place finish at Charlotte in October 2014.

Notes: Teams in both the NASCAR Sprint Cup and Camping World Truck Series will run the same Goodyear tire codes at Charlotte this week . . . throughout the two race weeks at Charlotte, all tires will be branded with "Support Our Troops" as part of the Goodyear Gives Back program . . . while NASCAR teams have run this left-side tire code (D-4426) at Charlotte since 2012, this is the first race weekend on this right-side code (D-4640) . . . this right-side is a Goodyear multi-zone tread tire, which incorporates two distinct compounds on the same tire -- one for endurance and heat resistance on the inboard two inches of the tread and one for traction on the outboard 10 inches . . . this inboard (Endurance Zone) features the same compound that was run on the same zone at Texas, while this outboard (Traction Zone) features the compound run at Charlotte last year . . . this tire set-up was first tested at Charlotte in December, and was confirmed in a March 10 tire test at the track with drivers Aric Almirola, Kasey Kahne, Martin Truex Jr. and J.J. Yeley . . . as on all NASCAR ovals greater than one mile in length, teams are required to run inner liners in all four tire positions at Charlotte . . . air pressure in those inner liners should be 12-25 psi greater than that of the outer tire.
